I love love eating – so much that I’ve even used food as inspiration for make up on my face. But a problem I’ve always come across is that I’ll have a beautiful lip colour on, eat a feast, and the colour’s all completely rubbed off by the end of it. A better option is *drumroll* the lip stain! My recipe gives you that just-bitten hint of colour that makes you taste just as delicious as it looks.
I’ve collaborated with The Ugly Apple to bring a strawberry-inspired post. Did you know that every year Australians waste $10 billion worth of food? Don’t let it go to waste – put it on your face…or do it a la The Ugly Apple and put it in your tummy, with their ‘Ugly’ Strawberry Jam!
Why use lip stains?
Lip stains are usually thin, so they give you an even and natural tint of colour that has staying power. Eat all you want – and your lippie will stay in tact!
What to avoid in your lippie
Fragrances and artificial colours: can cause lip irritation. I know it smells good, but resist, don’t do it!
Menthol, camphor, and phenol: give you that fresh, cooling feeling on your lips – but it can also dry your lips and/or produce redness and swelling.
‘Bite Me’ Strawberry Lip Stain
Ingredients: ½ cup strawberries, 1tbsp olive oil, ½ tbsp honey
Step 1: Grab some strawberries.
Step 2: Chop the strawberries up into itty tiny pieces. (Remember to remove the stems.)
Step 3: Mash the pieces up so you can get all the juices out – I used a fork, but you can also throw it all into a blender.
Step 4: Filter the contents through a coffee filter, or a cheesecloth.
Step 5: Squueeeeeze all the goodness out of it.
Step 6: Add the rest of the ingredients.
Step 7: Use a lip brush, a cotton tip, or your trusty ol’ fingertips and apply it to clean, dry lips. You can store this in the refrigerator for up to 4 weeks, or in the freezer for 2 months.
Feel free to experiment with different berries for a range of hues – think cherries, raspberries, or even a touch of espresso to mix it up a bit. Share your favourite combinations below!
