Give Your Body Some Scrubbing’ Lovin’

Sometimes the world is overwhelming and all I want is an afternoon pampering myself at the spa. But it’s not so easy to get to the spa every other afternoon, so making my own body scrubs is the delicious way to go!

Benefits of Body Scrub

A good scrub stimulates the blood circulation, helps drain lymph nodes, and detoxifies your body internally. It also helps your moisturizer absorb better, and will increase relaxation by gently massaging your skin.

Chemicals to Avoid

Phthalates: can often be found in lotion, and can cause infertility *gasp*.

Ethyl-, Methyl-, Butyl- or Propyl-: prefixed ingredients contain endocrine disrupters that mimic estrogen, and is linked to weight gain and breast cancer.

1. Sugar Olive Scrub

5-1-1

Ingredients: ¾ cup brown sugar, ¼ cup olive oil

How it works: Brown sugar is a natural exfoliant that has anti-aging qualities, while olive oil repairs the skin by promoting elasticity and tackling blemishes.

Steps: Combine all the ingredients together. When in the shower, scoop out a generous amount and massage into your skin. Rinse off.

2. Oatmeal Scrub

5-1-2

Ingredients: ¾ cup brown sugar, ¼ cup olive oil, 1 tbsp quick oats

How it works: oatmeal has something called saponins, which has intense cleansing ability and not only exfoliates away dead skin cells, but also works wonders with acne and acne scarring.

Steps: Mix all the ingredients together, and massage into the skin while you shower. Rinse, and enjoy!

3. Cocoa Coco Scrub

5-1-3

Ingredients: 1 tbsp cocoa powder, ½ cup coconut oil, ¼ cup brown sugar

How it works: Cocoa powder is ‘choc’-full of antioxidants that help repair skin cells and neutralize harmful free radicals, and even acts as an instant mood booster through increasing endorphin and serotonin levels. Coconut oil contains triglycerides, or medium chain fatty acids, which eliminates moisture loss through skin pores.

Steps: Mix the ingredients together, and scrub away!
